Providing farming solutions and technology for higher profitability! It is time again for Precision Talk, dedicated to educating the public about new technologies in agriculture. I am Grant Knies and this message is brought to you by Precision Farming Solutions. Whether you are lacking technology at your farm or you are in it up to your neck, We are capable of handling your needs. There is one question on everyone’s mind this time of year! What can I do at planting time that will increase bushels and profitability of my farm? There are several ways we can go about this. One of my favorites is to add Ag Leader’s Hydraulic down force to the planter. We all have some form of down force whether it is pneumatic or spring it is there. With hydraulic down force we can more accurately monitor and control each row units down force and receive a more consistent planting depth across the field. Our fields and soils vary, and the amount of down force needs to vary with those changes. This ultimately helps produce a better stand thus a greater yield, which we all want. As always, Precision Talk was brought to you by Precision Farming Solutions, check out our newly designed webpage, find us on Facebook and Twitter, or call 812-639-4389.

Precision Ag, of course, is a rather broad term that encompasses many different products and activities, but in essence it boils down to one thing: it is a means of precisely measuring and reacting to spatial variations in plants and the soil. In the past crops were managed at the field level; fertilizers, seed, and chemicals were all applied at the same rate all across the field.*
(This is why it has often been said that “Precision Ag” could also be called “Site-Specific Ag”).
In today’s world however, thanks to satellite-based GPS, different areas of any given field can be managed in different ways, sometimes down to the foot or even inch by inch.
Using the techniques and practices of Precision Ag, you can take a very large field and manage it as if it were a group of very small fields. When you manage fields like that, both you and your soils work better, not harder. That is why Precision Ag is so good for your bottom line. And also so good for the environment.
